Arnie and Kirk own this place and have been there for a number of years. I moved to this area in 2001 and drove by their shop one day. There was a high level of quality cars sitting outside of their shop so I made the assumption they were good. I was right. They are excellent about service, communication, and appropriate estimates. They are honest and ethical about the service they provide. I'm sticking with them. They do a good job and I know I can trust them. - Anonymous (5 star review found on Angie's List)
My son, my ex-husband and my boyfriend take their cars to Whiteman’s Garage, in Newark. My whole family goes there, as do most people around here. They’re courteous, and they call when necessary. They’ve got a nice facility. - Anonymous (5 star review found on Angie's List)
I last used them four years ago and they worked on my daughter's car. I was reasonably pleased with them. They seem efficient in understanding and repairing cars. I was satisfied with the work. The prices were less than at the dealership. Their expertise was better than some of the garages around and on par with the dealership. They seemed to know what they were doing. I would use them in the future. - Anonymous (5 star review found on Angie's List)
The check engine light on for some time and a prior auto shop didn't really seem to have a feel for the problem. Heard fairly good reviews on Dempsey's so thought I'd give them a try. They diagnosed the problem as a stretched timing chain. Seemed odd since, in a well-maintained car which mine is, timing chains usually last over 200K miles ( I have 147K on mine). I also had brakes all the way around and new caliphers which they said I needed. The cost for this was probably or just slighly less than dealer cost. Finished off with an oil change. Whole bill just over $2,100. While the cost is not outrageous, it is just a bit high but not enough to scare me away. The proof will be in quality/cost of future services which should be more routine and I will post on Angie's List. As of now, I recommend this shop for repairs/ servicing. Again, will continue to post as the relationship develops.
Car was driven by daughter and son-in-law from Delaware to Richmond, VA, when transmission problems developed. Local recommended mechanic in Richmond diagnosed faulty transmission requiring repair/replacement costing approx. $3500. Car was driven carefully back to Delaware. Dempsey's diagnosed faulty electrical solenoid in transmission costing $450 to repair. Work was done promptly. However, minor oversight in tightening some bolts resulted in transmission fluid leak. The car was returned and work was done without additional charge.
They were very professional and we went with just the oil change. The vehicle was old and the repairs were too much given the age of the vehicle, so we decided to donate it and buy new instead of continuing to repair the old one. We will definitely use them again in the future. - Anonymous (5 star review found on Angie's List)
