If your exhaust is loud and leaky at the engine, you can bet the turbo isn’t functioning correctly. In some cases, the bearings in the actual turbo itself can fail, although rarely. Turbos spin at incredibly high RPMs, and as such require extremely good bearings to function. If you hear a metallic grinding or screeching noise coming from the turbo, stop driving the truck until it can be fixed, to prevent further damage and a stranded truck.
